REFLECTION

A few days ago, I wrote about my discovery of (intense) irritation, instead of compassion, in my heart … towards a particularly wayward young student. I praise God, that despite how I was feeling, I was able to still teach the boy in a relatively self-controlled way. And this morning – as I drew near to the Lord in honest prayer – I received a deeper revelation related to that triggering experience: I see now that the irritation that rose up in my heart was pointing to a deeper issue that needed healing within me. By God’s amazing grace, I have already experienced a lot of deep healing and have transformed so much, but the transformation process is ongoing while we are on earth (see 2 Corinthians 3:18). Our Maker knows when we are really ready to deal with specific issues and our emotions can serve as a kind of divine alarm clock. So, let’s not hit the snooze button and ignore / excuse / dismiss our alarming feelings, but rather take them to the One who made us, and ask our merciful Maker what is really going on. We can trust that the One who went to the cross for us, will indeed help us and give us everything we truly need, in His wonderful way and perfect timing. Hallelujah!

PRAYER POEM: Awe & Wonder

LORD, in every moment of every day, You are working wonders in Your mysterious, wonderful way. Make me mindful of Your mercy and move my meandering mind to prayerfully ponder, with awe and wonder, the true meaning of the cross, as You scoop the dross from every dark part of my hurting heart.
