Inner Peace

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 AMPC)

REFLECTION

I had just emerged from hours of teaching that continually tested patience and required the kind of long-suffering that is found in prayerful perseverance, while holding tight to the promises of God. I was also detoxing from sugar, so I felt weary and drained (but not without hope) while making my way home after a difficult day. And then – in that place of weakness – I received the kind of text message that caused a knot to form in my gut. In my weariness I was so tempted to escape reality with a quick and easy reply. But, by God’s grace, I paused and prayed before replying…and I found that as I continued to pray about the issue and the precious people involved, peace began to untangle the knot of anxiety in my gut. Our loving and compassionate Maker is merciful and faithful, and as we turn to Him in prayer and petition (with thanksgiving), we can peacefully trust that He will give us what we truly need, in His higher way and perfect timing. Hallelujah.

PRAYER POEM

Loving Lord Jesus, thank You for making it possible for people to experience the kind of inner peace that only You can give.

May I live and love in ways that glorify You, as I prayerfully trust You to lead me into all that is true.
