Cultivating Courage

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7-9 NIV)

REFLECTION

Courage is defined by Oxford Dictionary as 1)The ability to do something that frightens one; bravery. And 1.1) Strength in the face of pain or grief. The Bible urges us to be strong and courageous. “Be” indicates there is a clear choice involved. I’ve found that courage is cultivated in the unseen realm of the heart, before it can be confidently lived out. The heart is the seedbed of a harvest to come.

I can testify to the transforming power of meditating on God’s Word. Not once have I not been deeply encouraged after intentionally meditating on the truth that truly transforms trouble into triumph. Often that triumph is an unseen victory of an enlightened perspective on pain or unchanging circumstances. Keep prayerfully sowing the Word of God and courageous faith is certain to grow. This I know.

PRAYER POEM: Your Way

King of kings ~ You caught my hand as I slid down a slippery slope and filled my heart with hope.

In my sorry state, You kissed my heart awake, and led me to the narrow gate.

Your way, Your Word, forever true …whatever I do, I do in and unto You.
