Believe

Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, do you now believe? Blessed [happy, spiritually secure, and favored by God] are they who did not see [Me] and yet believed [in Me].”John 20:28-29 AMP

REFLECTION

What does it look like to truly, deeply believe something or someone?

If we truly trust someone, we tend to believe what they tell us. Due to the frailty of humanity, trust can easily be broken, but thankfully trust can also be restored as we fix our focus on the only perfect One – Jesus Christ – the author and perfector of our faith. As we entrust ourselves to Him and seek to know Him in prayer and pondering His words, true trust deepens and we are able to more and more deeply believe, regardless of what we may see or how others may behave. When we fully yield to Him and remain expectant – trusting His higher way and timing – we are free to love and serve / help others without expectations, and bear the fruit of the Spirit [love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control – see Galatians 5:22-23] and actually live out Hebrews 11:1 (AMP):

Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

PRAYER POEM

LORD, thank You that we can come to You – our sinless Saviour – as we are, with all our questions, doubts and bouts of despair.

Remind me of how much You care and help me be raw and real about how I really feel, trusting You to heal the wounds I reveal. May I truly believe and Your love more deeply receive, and trust Your higher way, every day, come what may.
