Ephesians 4:11-15 [NIV]
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
REFLECTION
Growing up spiritually is applicable to all, irrespective of earthly age, stage and sensibility, and in this passage we are reminded that we express ourselves (and our spiritual maturity) in our speech as well as our very lives. Let’s stay so close to the Lord, who is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). Our loving Lord encourages us to ask for what we need (Matthew 7:7), so let’s ask Him to equip and empower us to know, speak and live out His truth in love, wherever we go, in whatever we do and to whomever we speak to. Let’s ask Him to help us be patient and gentle with ourselves and others, aware that we are all growing spiritually, by His grace.
PRAYER POEM: Tethered to Truth
Lord, grant us grace to run the race of faith and face the future focused on You, tethered to truth in all we say and do, glorifying You, our conquering King, in everything.
