Progressively Renewed

Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable. [2 Corinthians 4:16-18 AMP]

REFLECTION

When we find ourselves deeply distressed and discouraged, let’s not seek an easy way out, but rather seek God and ask Him to strengthen and guide us. We can trust that He will hear our prayers and help us, as we prayerfully move forward in faith, despite what we see or how we feel. Our feelings are real, but so is the grace of God, and the latter is far more powerful. So, while it’s healthy to acknowledge our feelings, let’s not allow them to pull us down, but rather propel us to pray. And let’s trust God to give us the grace we need to persevere in prayer and believe that He is doing what only He can do, in us and through us, as we do what we can, in faith, hope and His powerful love.

PRAYER POEM: The Way

LORD ~ when the way is steep and sorrow is deep, my heart I trust You will keep. And though I may weep while I work and wait, You know my fate and You are never late.
