Courage to Climb

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1 ESV).

REFLECTION

Have you ever had a hill of difficulty before you that you knew you had to climb to get to where you needed to be, but felt fearful about facing reality? I have, many times—but by God’s grace, I climbed and conquered fear, only to get to a higher hill, where greater courage still was required. Courage to face and process pain. Courage to continue despite discomfort. Courage to make a consistent effort without knowing the outcome. While there are timely respites along the way, the path to life is narrow and difficult, but we do have the ongoing opportunity to better know and abide in Christ, who is our strength. And as we prayerfully move forward in faith, hope and love, we can trust that He will sustain us and “cause all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28).

PRAYER POEM: All In

JESUS, to You my life I bring; the shiny surface and the brokenness within.

My striving and secret suffering, my chagrin. Your perfect blood alone atones my sin, so to You I say: I’m all in.

You are present in my plight, my Holy Hero in the fight ~ may You, Your way, Your Word be my deepest delight.
