Ask • Believe • Receive

“If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord…” (James 1:5-7 AMP)

REFLECTION

I’m currently navigating an exciting and challenging transition. There is no handbook for the kind of transition that has never been experienced before, so much wisdom is required. In light of this, I regularly pray for wisdom. It’s so important that we ask God for wisdom and then actually do what we believe He is guiding us to do in faith. This shows we trust that God has given us wisdom and that He will give us more wisdom, as we move forward in faith. I’ve found that as I move into the unknown, the unfolding process can be full of excitement, encouragement and energy, but it can also be rather bumpy and bewildering, with a lot of quivering. But, even when review / correction is required, we can ask our merciful Maker for wisdom and trust Him to help us as we do what we believe to be right. Praise God that we can turn to Him anytime, anywhere, for whatever reason. God is willing to help everyone, but we need to ask and believe in order to receive. It all boils down to relational trust. And how do we experience such trust? We prioritise our relationship with The Perfect One who made, knows and loves us best.
