“Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.” (Galatians 6:8-10 MSG)
REFLECTION
I find that when I’m doing creative work — for the benefit of all — that I’m really passionate about, I usually feel energised and wonderfully inspired.
And then there is the kind of work that I really don’t enjoy doing, but needs to be done — for the benefit of all — (like having to discipline a very naughty student) and instead of surging energy and abounding inspiration, it can leave me feeling really drained (especially if it’s at the tail end of a busy day).
In light of Galatians 6:8-10, let’s prayerfully persevere and do what needs to be done – for the benefit of all – whether we feel fatigued or fantastic, knowing that we are not labouring in vain.
PRAYER POEM
LORD, thank You for always being perfectly patient with me. Open my eyes to see as You see those You made. May I stay mindful of Your mercy and grace in my workplace. Help me to work for the benefit of all, regardless of how I feel or what I face.
