Unforced Rhythms of Grace

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 The Message)

REFLECTION

After much prayerful planning and research, I started establishing healthier habits, like getting up earlier to spend more time praying and pondering God’s Word, moving my body more and eating in a way that nourishes and energises it. Some days my flesh freaked out and had to be prayerfully subdued. Some days I felt in flow, energetic and deeply encouraged. Through all the ups, downs, missteps and marvellous moments, the Lord taught me (and is teaching me) how to embrace His unforced rhythms of grace. Just like it takes time to learn the steps to a new dance and become a strong and inspiring dancer, so we can learn our loving Lord’s wonderful ways, and dance our way through each day, be it difficult or delightful — in faith, hope and love — by His amazing grace.

PRAYER POEM

My merciful and marvellous Maker, Your ways are always perfectly wise and wonderful. Teach me to stay in step with You, in everything I think, say and do.

In Your name, Jesus, amen.
