“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40 NIV)
REFLECTION
I spend chunks of my week prayerfully training children and their families. We drill deeper than language learning, we also focus on character formation and most importantly, I teach children how to pray. And while the children and families refer to me as the teacher, I am continually being taught (which includes kind correction) by The Teacher — our compassionate Creator — who I believe is lovingly orchestrating everything for the good of those who love Him (see Romans 8:28) and wants to see each one of us fully cooperating with Him, for it’s only when we abide in The Vine (see John 15:4-11) that we truly experience fruitfulness. So — irrespective of age, stage or sensibility — let’s pray to stay fully yielded to the omniscient One, open to how He wants to teach us.
PRAYER POEM
Loving Lord, lead and teach me for You alone know what I truly need to know to grow in Your glorious grace. Regardless of place or what I may feel or face, help me stay prayerful, careful and fully yielded to You, in everything I think, say and do.
