The Reality of Redemption

“Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
    may they not rule over me.
Then I will be upright
    and innocent from great transgression.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in Your sight,
    O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:13-14 MEV)

REFLECTION

Let’s prayerfully ponder the following definitions:

Redeemer: Heb. goel; i.e., one charged with the duty of restoring the rights of another and avenging his wrongs (Leviticus 25:48, 49; Numbers 5:8; Ruth 4:1; Job 19:25; Psalms 19:14; 78:35, etc.). This title is peculiarly applied to Christ. He redeems us from all evil by the payment of a ransom (q.v.). *Ref: Easton’s Bible Dictionary

Redemption: 1) the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. 2) the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt. *Ref: Oxford Languages

I find it deeply reassuring that we can ask our loving Lord to keep us back from presumptuous sins.This reassurance reminds me that He is our Redeemer, the only One who can redeem us from all evil by the payment of a ransom. We can truly do nothing apart from our King of kings, and yet our role in His Kingdom is not passive. As beloved believers, we are called to prayerfully and proactively meditate on God’s living and active Word, fully yielded to His Holy Spirit, as we move forward in faith, hope and His perfect love, trusting “that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”(Romans 8:28 AMP)

PRAYER POEM

Jesus, my strength and Redeemer, You are indeed the King of kings, to whom my heart sings. Keep me close to You as I go through all that You call me to do with You. May my heart be saturated with Scripture and my mouth declare only that which is true, and may everything I do point others to You.
