The Minor Role

Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. (Ephesians 2:7-10 MSG)

REFLECTION

This line lept out while I read the above passage: We don’t play the major role.

Every breath, every moment and movement is a gift from God. As created beings, we play the minor role. And we – His handiwork – are invited to know and love Him, those and that He made, and live out the plans He has for us, individually and collectively. The sobering reality is that He also gave us free will, the immense power and privilege to choose to either follow and worship Him or not. Our merciful Maker’s love never wavers, even if one of His own completely rejects Him… but, sadly, the one doing the rejecting will find themself cut off from the very Source of Life.

PRAYER POEM: In Sync

Holy Spirit of God,

Without You, there is nothing eternally good I can do.

Without You, I cannot experience true breakthrough.

Without You, meaningless misery is sure to ensue.

With You, is where I belong, where I’m made strong and find my unique song.

May I stay sensitive and in sync with You and empowered for all that You have called me to do.
