“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” And Jesus replied to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’ The whole Law and the [writings of the] Prophets depend on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40 AMP)
REFLECTION
Childhood wounds caused me to hide behind a voguesque veneer, which I preened in my quest for approval and validation. This led to a life lusting after luxury, accolades and prestige, until I got it all and realised that none of it could meet the deep needs in my heart. I then discovered that only the One who made our hearts can do such deep mysterious work. Let’s not forget the order of Matthew 22: 36-40… let’s seek first to love the Lord our God with our entire being and, with our lives yielded to Him, learn to love others and live in a truly balanced and fruitful way.
PRAYER POEM: Forever True
LORD ~ You caught my hand as I slid down a slippery slope and filled my heart with hope.
In my sorry state, You kissed my heart awake, and led me to the narrow gate.
Your way, Your word, forever true… whatever I do, I desire to do in and unto you.
