“For physical training is of some value, but godliness (spiritual training) is of value in everything and in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8 AMP)
REFLECTION
Our Maker has clearly made us to be tripart beings, comprising of spirit, soul (mind, will and emotions) and body. There are varying opinions about the definitions for spirit and soul, but irrespective of various points of view, it’s clear that we have a seen (physical) part and a (spiritual) unseen part to our makeup. I’ve found that they are connected, yet when I started making spiritual training my top priority, I experienced (and continue to experience) inner-to-outer transformation, which not only impacts physical reality on earth, but echoes into eternity.
Physical training, which includes staying fit and healthy, is important as it obviously helps us stay physically strong (and in a better mood) to do and better enjoy all that we are called to do and experience this side of Heaven. But, spiritual training is infinitely more important “…since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come…”
So let’s prioritise prayer and pondering God’s Word, and seek to stay close to the only perfect One who gave and gives us breath and knows exactly what is truly needed, when and why.
PRAYER POEM
Loving Lord, I pray to stay sensitive and in step with You in every moment of every day, come what may. Your way is higher, so keep me close to You at all times, be it in festivity or refining fire.
