Spiritual Disciplines

You’ve been raised on the Message of the faith and have followed sound teaching. Now pass on this counsel to the followers of Jesus there, and you’ll be a good servant of Jesus. Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers. (1 Timothy 4:6-10 MSG)

REFLECTION

As I’ve persisted in prayer and pondering God’s Word – by His grace – I’ve experienced many memorable moments of deep intimacy with the Lord and the indescribable peace, love and joy I have experienced has me longing to know Him more and more deeply. I mean just imagine what it’s like to deeply know the One who actually created the things people are in awe of. I’m so grateful for the grace He gives us in our preparation for eternity, but we are also urged in God’s Word to be proactive Christians. As Paul says in 2 Timothy 4(MSG): “No spiritual flabbiness, please!” So let’s persist in prayerfully paying attention to God’s Word and ask Him to open our hearts to receive deeper revelations of His love and to fuel our faith to actually live His Word, together with our precious brothers and sisters in Christ.

PRAYER POEM: Glory

Loving Lord, please keep me tethered to You at all times, so that Your light of love shines in and through me, wherever I go and whatever I do, always giving glory to You.
