“Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor].” (1 Peter 4:10 AMP)
REFLECTION
Each one of us has a unique bent. A leaning toward particular activities. An innate knowing of inclinations and an ardent appreciation of certain abilities.
For example: I’ve always known that I was not called to be employed in a hospital or to do anything medical, even though I recognise the need for it all. This was confirmed when I’d pass out (more than once) at the sight of blood. But, I have always had a profound appreciation for words and artistic expression that enlightens, inspires and encourages. And when I was selected for a short literary programme at Oxford University, the professors confirmed that I was gifted. This has been echoed countless times by all manner of people and organisations since.
Of course, there are other interests, abilities and responsibilities etc. We are not one-dimensional beings. But each precious person has received a special gift. Sometimes, in sorrow, sin and sadness we forget. But, it’s always there, deep within …and it can be found again, redeemed and put to good use (possibly in a different form), but not without the Gift Giver.
Let’s not compare gifts, but rather cultivate our God-given gifting in serving and encouraging each other, and glorify the One who gave the gifts.
PRAYER POEM: King of Glory
Lord, let not sorrow induced slumber lull me asunder from the wonder.
Help me follow through in faithfulness and love, fully yielding to You, the King of glory, for You alone know the end of my story.
