Growing Goodness

Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.

So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.” (Galatians 6:8-10 MSG)

REFLECTION

This passage prompts me to prioritise and persevere in prayer and pondering God’s Word, because I’m keenly aware of the frailty of my humanity and how much I need God’s help to do anything truly good that bears eternal fruit. Praying and pondering the living and active Word of God empowers us in ways we may not even be aware of, for the unseen spiritual realm is always active, even when we are not. That said, prayer and pondering without proactivity is pointless. So let’s pray, ponder and then do what we believe God is guiding us to do, even when life feels meaningless and messy, trusting the Holy Spirit to tend to the growing good within us as we help others in faith.
