Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. (Psalm 107:1-3 ESV)
REFLECTION
It’s been said that gratitude is the gateway to joy. And there are bountiful books and journals all about the wonder of gratitude and the word can be found in many a platitude – however – we can read about it, talk about it and even journal about it, but unless we know what we are actually grateful for and make it very personal, the practice of giving thanks is unlikely to keep joy buoyant within us, especially when circumstances shift and shake.
The joy of the Lord is our strength (see Nehemiah 8:10). When we prioritise having a real relationship with the Source of true joy…not just to get the joy, but to truly connect with our caring Creator, then glorious gratitude, joy and every gloriously good thing is found in the overflow.
PRAYER POEM
LORD, the is none like You. You are always perfectly and gloriously good and true. Even when I’m in a sorry state, You are the gate to true joy. Please purify my motive and my mind, that I may truly connect with You, for You are always totally trustworthy, caring and kind.
