“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4 GNV)
REFLECTION
Despite a concerted effort — involving a hairdryer and other products that are supposed to tame my tresses — I went to church looking like I had put my finger in an electrical socket. The frizz factor (courtesy of high humidity) is something that can frustrate me and in the past it’s even affected my mood, which would alert me to shift from grumbling about something so superficial to gratitude for the great work God is doing in and through me (whether my hair looks frizzy or fabulous). But, this morning, while worshipping God with other believers at church, I was delighted to discover deep joy within me, despite my appearance and circumstances not being exactly as I’d like. What we focus on impacts how we think and feel, and what we do. Let’s stay focused on God and His perfect promises, and rejoice in the Lord always!
PRAYER POEM
LORD, deep joy is found only in union with You, the One who sustains us in all that we do. Please help me keep in mind that You are always perfectly wise, loving and kind. I pray to stay close to You and full of Your wonderful words, which remain forever true.
