REFLECTION
I stood in awe of a series of original paintings by Sandro Botticelli at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and I marvelled at the mastery that had captured such beauty, which still drew crowds of people and stirred inspiration centuries later.
But, it wasn’t a Botticelli painting that captured my attention that day, but rather a lesser known Renaissance artist, Pietro Vannucci (known as Perugino) — who painted a somewhat idealised portrait of Mary Magdalene, an early follower of Jesus Christ.
I noticed how some people just walked past her portrait, dismissing the unique way her beauty had been presented, while others stopped and took time to really appreciate the beauty captured and the mastery it took to pay tribute to the source of all beauty, in all its forms — the Creator of us all.
Each one of us is a unique and wonderful work of art, carefully crafted by our Creator for a collective calling to wholeheartedly love our Maker and those He made, including ourselves. Let’s fully embrace this call, ever mindful that while overt beauty is something to be appreciated, it’s merely the moon to the glorious sun of a greater beauty which is found deep within, unseen and eternal.
PRAYER POEM: Wonder
Caring Creator ~ as I pause and ponder Your power, I’m reminded that however I may feel, Your goodness and grace are as real as the wonder of Your wisdom and the beauty You reveal.
