Through Him we also have access by faith into this [remarkable state of] grace in which we [firmly and safely and securely] stand. Let us rejoice in our hope and the confident assurance of [experiencing and enjoying] the glory of [our great] God [the manifestation of His excellence and power]. And not only this, but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation]. Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:2-5 AMP)
REFLECTION
I find that I feel disappointment when my hope (and expectation) is misplaced – in people and outcomes instead of the promises of God.
As I write this, I’m feeling disappointed and discouraged as I face seemingly impossible and unfair situations. But – I am turning to the Lord in it, and this is the key to every solution. For “God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 AMPC)
We can come to our Maker as we are, with all our raw and real feelings, and trust that as we pour out our hearts to Him in honest prayer, that He will indeed be a very present and well-proved help in trouble. He is perfectly loving, wise and trustworthy at all times, so let’s stay prayerful, thankful and mindful of His promises as we navigate difficulties, knowing “…that to those who love God, who are called according to his plan, everything that happens fits into a pattern for good…”(see Romans 8:28 PHILLIPS)
PRAYER POEM: Turn
LORD, as I am, to You I turn, open to learn. Help me hear and heed Your eternal Word and fully yield to You in everything I go through, for You are perfectly trustworthy and true.
