Clarify Why

Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve. (Colossians 3:23-24 AMP)

REFLECTION

I recently spent time prayerfully clarifying why I am where I am, doing what I do. I prayed and prepared a why list, comprised of why questions related to relationships, habits, where I live, the work I’m doing, my longstanding commitments and all the various activities I’m involved in. I found the exercise to be both clarifying and challenging as I weighed realities, counted the cost, and prayerfully pondered how to move forward. When we prayerfully clarify the why behind what we do, we can better see if we are living with an eternal perspective or not. And as we bring our why questions into the light of God’s truth and seek His guidance, our efforts are infused with more meaning and we are empowered to follow through in faith, hope and God’s unfailing love.

PRAYER POEM: True Value

LORD, my true value is found in relationship with You, before I do any of the good works You call me to.

Forgive me for any hint of selfish ambition, ignite all that is right in Your sight and set me ablaze for The Great Commission.

Keep me in step with You, and in all that I think, say and do help me glorify You, for You are worthy and true.
