Focus + Flow

You can know a tree by the fruit it bears. You don’t find figs on a thorn bush, and you can’t pick grapes from a briar bush. It’s the same with people. A person full of goodness in his heart produces good things; a person with an evil reservoir in his heart pours out evil things. The heart overflows in the words a person speaks; your words reveal what’s within your heart. What good is it to mouth the words, “Lord! Lord!” if you don’t live by My teachings? (Luke 6:44-46 The Voice)

REFLECTION

I find that whatever I focus on long enough will invariably flow out of me in some way, be it destructive or beneficial. I want the latter to flow, but sometimes even if I earnestly try to focus on what is good, lovely and all things wonderful – the most wonderful of all being our marvellous Maker and His wonderous Word – at times there can be something blocking or hindering the flow, or some unattended hurt infecting the flow of my words, actions and general expression. This is why I think it is so important to be careful about what we focus on and to regularly ask our caring Creator to:

Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

PRAYER POEM: Flow

Abba, Father ~ forgive me for times I’ve been so selfish and proud ~ revive my voice to sing Your praises aloud.

Fill me afresh and move me to let go of worry and woe, and in Your love, flow ~ and You more deeply know.
