And Jesus replied to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].’ Matthew 22:37-39 AMP
REFLECTION
Note the order of Jesus’s commandments in Matthew 22:37-39. We can only truly love others unselfishly when we prioritise loving God first. So let’s make room to lean in and linger in the light of God’s love, spelled out in His love letter to us and evident in the abounding goodness of His handiwork. Trusting Him and His Word, let’s stay in reverential awe of who He is, His truth, His majesty and acknowledge Him as Lord over all. Let’s pray to be teachable, irrespective of age or stage, and learn the Lord’s language of love.
