“God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.” (Hebrews 4:12-13 MSG)
REFLECTION
There are many different types of prayer, from praise prayers and heartfelt requests, to lament and deeply desperate prayers, and everything in between. I’m so grateful to God that, because of Jesus, we can come to Him in prayer as we are. And there is no point in being pretentious, because the One who made us knows us better than we know ourselves, and He has given us the gift of prayer to connect deeply with Him and fully engage in the ongoing process of sanctification and transformation, as we journey heavenward together.
Scriptural prayer is woven into all the other types of prayers I pray in faith, and I can testify that scriptural prayer has been (and is) a vital aspect of my personal spiritual formation. Today it’s on my heart to share with you a couple of scriptural prayers that I have up on the notice board above my desk:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 ESV)
“Let me know Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You [and only You] I wait [expectantly] all the day long.” (Psalm 25:4-5 AMP)
As we memorise, meditate on, pray and ponder God’s living and active Word, we can trust that He will do what only He can do, in and through us, as we do what we can in faith. Hallelujah!
PRAYER POEM
Sovereign God ~ thank You for Your perfect, powerful Word. May Your eternal truth be heard by all affected by the fall. Increase my faith and fortify me to focus on You and all that is eternally true, as we journey together, now and forever.
