“God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from.True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.
Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side.Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.
You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.
Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.” (Psalm 23 MSG)
REFLECTION
There’s a time to work and press on and a time to rest and reset. And I find that when I include the latter, I am better able to lovingly help others.
Cambridge Dictionary defines reset as: “…(of a person) to start again after a period of rest or change, so that you feel better able to deal with your life or with a situation…”
What does “rest and reset” look like to you? For me, this morning, it looked something like this…
I spent time praying and pondering God’s Word (and shedding some tears), followed by breakfast in bed, reading, reflection and writing, a mini nap (while listening to https://abide.com/prayer/nplpmg), some stretching, a bit of girly grooming, and connecting with fellow believers (among other things). And once I’ve finished writing this devotional, I’m going to prayerfully review my schedule, and then declutter and organise my studio [which sounds like work, but I find it rather relaxing and therapeutic when done steadily to soothing music or in silence].
And as the rest of the day unfolds I plan to continue to stay open to the Lord, trusting Him to revive my drooping head and send me in the right direction, brimming with blessings.
PRAYER POEM
Loving Lord ~ You are the sacred source of everything eternally good and pure, the cure for confusion and the solution in every situation. As I seek to stay in sync with You and all that is true, may You move my meandering mind to align with Your divine design.
