“You can know a tree by the fruit it bears. You don’t find figs on a thorn bush, and you can’t pick grapes from a briar bush. It’s the same with people. A person full of goodness in his heart produces good things; a person with an evil reservoir in his heart pours out evil things. The heart overflows in the words a person speaks; your words reveal what’s within your heart.” (Luke 6:44-45 The Voice)
REFLECTION
Today’s passage reminds us that what is within us will find its way out. So how can we experience the flow of goodness? We focus on the personification of perfect goodness, Jesus Christ, and intentionally root ourselves in the glorious goodness of His Word. And as we draw near to Him, in prayer and pondering His perfect promises, we can trust that His Spirit will do what only He can do, in and through us — in His higher way and perfect timing — and transform us from the inside out, evident in our thoughts, words and deeds. So let’s stay close to the only perfect One, regardless of how we may feel or what flows forth…mindful that, this side of Heaven, transformation is an ongoing process.
PRAYER POEM
Loving Lord, I come to you as I am, trusting You to help me think, say and do that which is pleasing to You. As I prayerfully ponder Your living and active Word, I pray that I’m empowered to do what you say and trust You to work wonders, in and through me, in Your wonderful way.
