“This [is what] I command you: that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another.” (John 15:17 AMP)
REFLECTION
There are times when my heart is full of compassion towards others and, in this state, loving and unselfishly seeking the best for others flows fairly freely. Then there are times when I can’t locate any affection towards particular people and I have the opportunity to love in a more sacrificial way… by prayerfully focusing on how I can help them, despite the absence of affection. This actually happened yesterday and I marvelled at the miracle that took place in my heart as I prayed and intentionally sought to help someone (who I initially didn’t want to interact with). It felt like God enveloped us with kindness. We were able to connect in a meaningful way and part peacefully with eyes aglow with gratitude. The Lord’s commandments are for our good and the good of others. And when we prayerfully obey in faith, good fruit comes forth and God is glorified.
PRAYER POEM
LORD, I’m so grateful for Your loving faithfulness and kindness towards me. Open my eyes to see others the way You do and to serve at every opportunity, infused with love from above.
